Bazaar Berlin presents ’Creative Egypt’

• Successful synthesis of rich heritage and modern design

• Concepts for developing sustainable handicraft production in Egypt

• Bazaar Berlin takes place from 18 to 22 November 2015

Berlin, 19 November 2015 – Motifs from ancient Egypt and modern designs, traditional materials and new techniques, a rich heritage and innovative design – the stand of ‘Creative Egypt’ is a major attraction for visitors to Bazaar Berlin 2015. In Hall 11.1 Egypt’s Industrial Modernisation Centre is presenting an impressive range of locally produced quality handicrafts. They include decorative vases made from Egyptian alabaster, candles featuring magnificent wood and copper inlays, Nubian-style art, and colourful carpets from textile waste: upcycling, Egyptian-style.

“’Creative Egypt‘ stands for giving our cultural heritage a modern touch“, says Shereen El Shorbagy, the deputy director of the IMC. “Visitors to our stand can find out just how creative this process is. However, ’Creative Egypt‘ is more than just a label for ethnic products and handicrafts. It is also a concept for fighting poverty and developing sustainable handicrafts in Egypt.“

The focus of IMC activities is on some 16,000 Egyptian artists and craftsmen, many of them groups of women and young entrepreneurs. “One of our aims is to set up additional creative centres in Egypt“, says Ms. El Shorbagy. Top artists, craftsmen and leading entrepreneurs from 28 creative centres and ten government administrations are represented at Bazaar Berlin. ’Creative Egypt’ is exhibiting in Hall 11.1 on Stand 142.
