Bazaar Berlin is back and so are the crowds
An exotic shopping experience – visitors from Berlin and the local region took the opportunity to come to Bazaar Berlin after a two-year break. This Sunday, amid keen public interest and a good atmosphere, the international consumer exhibition for handicrafts, designer articles, natural goods and fair trade products from around the world came to a close on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. At the same time, Bazaar Berlin signalled the successful reopening of trade fair business by Messe Berlin.
“For us too, there were uncertainties involved in reopening Bazaar Berlin. So we are all the more pleased that our confidence has been vindicated. Everyone is delighted that after a two-year break the fair has been able to take place again. The resultant positive atmosphere has contributed to its success,“ said Esther Piehl, project manager for Bazaar Berlin. “In conversation with me, exhibitors and visitors have repeatedly said how good it is that Bazaar Berlin is taking place this year.”
During the five-day event, more than 21,000 visitors came to the north entrance on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds to witness the wide range of products on display by 230 exhibitors from 35 countries. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, not many more people could have attended. The event was held under “3G“ rules with a corresponding attendance limit. “Maintaining the rules worked very well“, said a satisfied Esther Piehl.
The visitor survey, which is regularly held at the event, also reflected how much people had missed Bazaar Berlin. On average, visitors had never previously spent as much money as they did this year. Nine out of ten also said they would be back for the next event.
In a snap poll, exhibitors at Bazaar Berlin also expressed their satisfaction.
“Compared with 2019, the flight from India was twice as expensive. However, it was important for me to keep in touch with my regular customers here in Berlin.” Sajid Hassan, Imperial Shawls, India.
“Bazaar Berlin is our first trade fair as exhibitors since the pandemic began. We have come all the way from Nepal to be here. Naturally, the fair is smaller than in previous years, but the atmosphere is warm and pleasant, as always. It has also helped re-establish confidence among exhibitors and visitors.” Amer Lal Shrestha, Superior Arts & Handicraft, Nepal, a regular exhibitor since 1979.
“This is our first time at Bazaar Berlin and we are delighted with the keen interest in our products such as our hand-woven and hand-embroidered cushion covers. We are already planning to return next year for the company’s fortieth anniversary.” Cirilo Carrion Jaulis, Mantas y trenzas, Peru.
“We are delighted with our sales so far, which are even better than we expected. We are looking forward to Bazaar Berlin next year.” Gülsen Derya, Morgenland Möbel & Accessoires, Land.
“This is our second time at Bazaar Berlin, and it has exceeded our expectations. We are more than satisfied with our stand at the Palais am Funkturm. Our sales are better than at the last event. The atmosphere is fantastic. We are looking forward to next time.” Sarah Ambani, Nyuzi Blackwhite, Kenya.
Next year, from 2 to 6 November 2022, Bazaar Berlin will take place for the sixtieth time.
